The prophet Daniel foretold that in the end times “the people who know their God shall stand firm and take action.” (Daniel 11:32) How can we be friends with someone we do not know? God is calling us into friendship with Him. What makes one a friend of God? How do we improve our friendship with God? What is Jesus asking us to do as His friends? These are the questions we will be exploring.

I was in a discipleship class a couple of weeks ago. The speaker touched on Jesus as a friend. My small group agreed that it is difficult to think of our relationship this way, as we normally think of having horizontal relationships with friends and a vertical relationship with Jesus. Thanks for shedding light on this. The example of the disciples, who knew God in human form, provide for us a blueprint. We may not have known Jesus in that form. But, that doesn’t negate the same type of relationship with him that the disciples had. We can and must carry out the same commandments with people who are just as real to us - our neighbors - as the disciples had. Matt 25:40 - Whatever you do for the least of my brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
